Breathless for a mile: Taking the plunge for patients

On 19th September 2026, PH nurses Iain Armstrong and Javier Jimenez will spend one mile feeling what their patients live with every single day.

They're taking to the open water of London's Hyde Park for Swim Serpentine, swimming 1,609 metres in the heart of the city. The shock of cold water will take their breath away. The exertion of the swim will keep it that way. For the best part of an hour, they'll feel closer than ever to the patients they care for - breathless, straining, pushing through.

And then they'll stop.

People living with pulmonary hypertension don't get that choice. There is no finish line, no towel, no walking it off. This challenge is about making that reality visible - raising awareness of the relentless burden of breathlessness, and building understanding for people who fight for every breath. 

Iain and Javier are taking the plunge in solidarity with their patients, and to raise money for the charity working tirelessly to support the PH community. 

A mile is 1,609 metres and £2 a metre equals £3,218. If you can spare just £2 in sponsorship, you could help them hit this target and show that we really are stronger together.
